June 15, 1934: “E.E. Sizemore and crew have completed work on the Skalawag tower and have moved to Graves Mountain where they will be engaged in similar work.” (The Republic News-Miner)

January 1935: "Growdon CCC Camp News. Crews from this camp are still at work on the Barnaby Creek and Skalawag Ridge roads. Approximately four miles of road have been constructed. The Forest Service expects to complete the Skalawag Ridge Road, which extends from the South Fork of Sherman Creek to Skalawag Lookout, by the first of the year.
A telephone line construction crew is building line along the South Fork Sherman Creek Road toward White Mountain and Stahley Mountain. Approximately five miles of line have been completed. This project will continued as long as snow conditions permit." (Six Twenty-Six)
