November 9, 1952: "The main Yacolt burn fire is in the south and central portion of the old burn's snag area and was moving west Saturday night. Most reports about the blaze came by radio from Charles Briggs, from the state forestry lookout atop Washington's Larch mountain, but he was forced to leave the lookout late Saturday when the fire entered Clark county and began to climb the east slope of the mountain." May 7, 1955: "One of the latest openings of the Larch mountain lookout station in the Vancouver forest district was predicted by State Forester Beckim Thursday. He said drifts of snow seven feet deep are keeping his crews from getting the station open.
Beckim said there is more snow on lowland watersheds than he has seen since 1947. Usual opening of Larch mountain is April 15." (The Daily Chronicle)
August 18, 1969: Larch Mountain lookout is one of five lookouts on the Battle Ground district to be discontinued as the result of detection duties being taken over by air patrol. This particular station will be maintained as a weather station because it is so located to give the best reports of of the rising east winds through the Columbia Gorge. (The Oregonian)
